Perfect Vanilla Frosting- how to make it with only 4 ingredients

Perfect Vanilla Frosting

This year, for Elliana’s 4th birthday, we made Vanilla cupcakes and Espresso Cupcakes. To top the homemade cupcakes, just any store-bought can would not do. Elliana and I busted out the mixer, Homemade Vanilla Extract, and made the most Perfect Vanilla Cupcake Frosting and topped them with rainbow sprinkles.

Cost

Making homemade is so much tastier than buying canned frosting.
Have you ever tried to make your own, and then tasted canned frosting? It is sure hard to go back when you make it from scratch.

1 cup unsalted butter, softened $2.00
3 1/2-4 cups powdered sugar $1.99
1 tsp Homemade Vanilla Extract $0.28
1-2 tablespoons heavy cream $0.08

This recipe for the Perfect Vanilla Frosting cost $4.35.
All of these prices were from February 2023.
As much as I love making this Perfect Vanilla Frosting from scratch, it does come with a cost. Additionally, this frosting recipe frosted 36 cupcakes with leftovers that we nibbled on with graham crackers.
A jar of frosting at ALDI costs $1.55. Yes, buying frosting is less expensive, however, making your own frosting tastes SO much better and way less chemically.

On Amazon, you can get 8-16oz jars for $15.36 or $1.92 each.

Happy birthday dear Elliana. She super loved her Vanilla Cupcake with the Perfect Vanilla Frosting.

Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 1/2-4 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp Homemade Vanilla Extract
1-2 tablespoons heavy cream

hand mixer with ingredients for perfect vanilla frosting

Directions

1. Let the butter rest on the countertop until completely softened and no longer chilled.
Trust me, let the butter become completely soft before you start to use it to make the frosting.

2. In a medium bowl, add the softened butter and then cream it until soft using a hand-held mixer.
Additionally, you can use a KitchenAid mixer with the whisk attachment.

3. To the butter, add Homemade Vanilla extract and heavy cream and then mix well until blended with a hand-held mixer.
Homemade Vanilla Extract truly is simple to make, with only two ingredients. Check out how to make it by clicking the link below.

4. Slowly add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until it is fully incorporated, around 2-3 minutes.

5. Finally, frost the cupcakes immediately or let the Perfect Vanilla Frosting rest until needed on the countertop.
Elliana wanted sprinkles, so we added sprinkles right after each cupcake was frosted.

I have not always had the skills to cook and bake from scratch. As a young wife, I bought every meal frozen or boxed and presented it to my husband with a flourish, believing myself a decadent cook. As our budget shrunk, and our family grew, I looked for ways to stretch our money to nourish our kids with the best for their hungry appetites. Hoping to find recipes and meals that they would love to eat. Through the last 5 years, I have learned so many cooking and baking lessons, and experienced many wins and failures. Come along with me on this journey as I share my recipes that work, how to make them on the cheap, and my tips and tricks to get my kids to eat homemade deliciousness! I will also share updates to our house that we have done in the last year since our move. With one income, we do most of the work ourselves and with amazing family and friends to help out, cutting costs but keeping style and money in the bank! I am a wife and mother of 3 boys and 1 princess. When I was a kid, I remember being asked what I wanted to be or do when I grew up. My response was, "a mom", and I am proud to grow up and be a mom to 4 amazing kids! Samuel is 11, Matthew is 8, Levi is 4, and Elliana is almost 2. We have been blessed to have kids who love to explore foods, to try new recipes, and enjoy helping us around the house. With 4 kids, you better believe they help clean! My husband Tyler and I have been married almost 13 years. We love our kids, we love outdoors, camping, canoeing, grilling, watching movies, and just hanging out making memories. A few years ago I gifted Tyler with his own "menu" book, where we write meals and foods we have loved to eat. Weekly our family decides what our meals will be and I make up a grocery list with what we need. It literally is my favorite chore! I love to shop, so shopping for food on a budget is my biggest win! Thank you for taking the time and visiting my site, Subscribe so you do not miss a post! Keep coming back to hear about new recipes, updates on our home, fun times with our kids, and how to make homemade deliciousness! ~Monica
